Tap into the power of your subconscious mind with these 5 tools. It’s no secret – if you’ve been following my Newsletter for the past 6 months you know that at least 96% of your perceptions, thoughts and behaviors come from your subconscious mind.
No wonder most of us act so goofy (me included). We’ve been programmed what to think, do and believe. Part of these thoughts are from you conscious mind, but the bulk of them are rooted in your subconscious. It’s time to change this. It’s time for you to take control. Here are the 5 essential tools to tap into the Power of Your Subconscious Mind:
1. Visualization
Visualization is picturing in your minds-eye what you would like to have. It’s creating a detailed vision of how you would like your life to unfold. It’s not just where you work. It’s a detailed image of where you live and what your home looks like – it’s who your neighbors and friends are. It encompasses everything in all aspects of your life.
Some of my clients will say, “I don’t see pictures very well or even at all… is there something wrong with me?”
No, of course not. It just means you haven’t developed that part of your brain. Just because you don’t play hockey or sing very well doesn’t mean you can’t do those things – it just means you’ve got to practice those skills in order to develop and get good at them. Learning visualization works the same way.
Maybe you’re more in tune with the voices and the feelings in your body. Which makes it easier for you to get in touch with how you feel so you can start…
2. Feeling Good
Besides making visualization a part of your routine, you also want to focus on feeling good. You want to make every day a game of “how awesome can I feel today?”
Have you ever noticed that life seems to go south when you feel like crap? And when you feel great, great things happen. It’s no coincidence. Your life is a reflection of how you feel. Your finances are a reflection of how you feel about money. Your relationships are a reflection of how you feel about being connected to the people in your life. Your business is a reflection of how you feel about your business and how you serve your clients.
Start shifting the way you feel. Starting lifting your vibration one step at a time… If you feel like a 3 out of 10, move to a 4 out of 10. Keep inching your way up each and every day.
For a practical guide on how to do this see: Stay Focused on What Makes You Feel Good
3. Written Intentions
I’ve been writing out my goals and intentions since 2006. Here are a list of empowering beliefs I wrote down on June 8, 2006:
- Everything happens for a reason and a purpose, and it serves us.
- There is no such thing as failure, there are only results.
- Whatever happens, take responsibility.
- It’s not necessary to understand everything to be able to use everything.
- People are your greatest resource.
- Work is play.
- There’s no abiding success without commitment.
- I trust myself to be rich and successful.
I wouldn’t say all of these are true for me… but they have definitely shaped my perspective and how I respond to the circumstances in my life. If you want to make deeper changes than impact you at a cellular level then write out your own list of intentions. Put some thought into them and place them where you’ll see them on a daily basis.
4. Repetition
Professional athletes use repetition obsessively. Back a few months the Montreal Canadiens were pursing the Stanley Cup in the National Hockey League. The Canadiens top scorer during the playoffs was Michael Camilleri. What was really interesting is how he would start each game.
Before anyone got on the ice he would walk out to the bench and stare at a spot on the ice. Then he would spend time visualizing himself shooting and scoring from that spot on the ice. He did that every game – and what’s even crazier is that he scored from the exact spot he was visualizing on the ice.
You see, most people talk themselves out of their goals because their subconscious hasn’t accepted it as an undeniable fact. They don’t see it for themselves. If you want to see it for yourself then start impressing your mind with visualization. Start impressing your mind with good-feeling-thoughts and over time you won’t have to convince your friends that you’re going to be super-successful. The only person you need to convince is yourself. Use repetition to turn the ordinary into the extraordinary.
5. Change Your Story
You know that little voice in your head that talks you out of your dreams? The one that just said, “What voice?” That voice has a story about you. It also has a story about your finances, a story about your relationships, a story about your work and a story about what is possible in your life… and in many cases you don’t even know it.
I have a story too – some of these stories work for me and others don’t. These stories filter through our subconscious as memories from the past. These memories are rooted in our subconscious mind. Change these stories and your behaviors change. Change your behaviors and your results change. Change your results and your life changes. I’m committed to changing my stories so that I can change my life – are you?

September 27, 2010Hi Steve and thanks for the great article!
As one of your ex students I am familiar with the five steps presented by you. However, sometimes I have a tendency of skipping one step (or more). Reading your article made me realize that writing down my intentions was missing so thanks for the reminder.

September 28, 2010Hey Adrian… it’s so great to hear from you my friend :)
The last seminar I attended was back in 2009. When I attend these events I always take a think pad of paper and take notes… the guys rooming with me commented on how often I take notes; and they both started taking notes too….
Sometimes I review the notes and sometimes I don’t. Either way I seem to learn what it is I want to learn – just by writing it out…
