Last night I was in Toronto to participate in a James Arthur Ray live event. Even though we had over 20 cm (8 inches) of snow there was still a great turn out for the seminar. Approximately 450 people attended the event.
The one unique thing about this specific event was the way it was structured. What I’ve noticed is that many international speakers will have an agenda and marketing presentation lined up for their event.
Typically, a live event like this one will work in three parts:
- Introduction and a heart-felt story about the speaker; speaker “earns the right” as the authority in his/her topic
- Content and experiential exercises; the teaching component
- Marketing, product offering and seminar closing
James ran his event slightly differently. He did share his story about how he lost almost everything he had in the early 1990’s. He explained how his life was perfect and then how it seemed to fall apart almost overnight.
About 30 minutes into the event he ran through some experiential exercises to demonstrate the inner game of wealth You probably remember this from my James Arthur Ray – Parallel Universes DVD Review, where James says:
“It’s not what you do, it’s how you do it.” ~ James Arthur Ray
And of course, the man is running a business – so he presented a product offering at the end of the seminar. All pretty standard stuff if you ask me.
James Arthur Ray: “What do you want?”
What I thought was really cool is the way he generated the content and teaching portion of the event. After his initial introduction and story he just asked this question:
“What do you want?”
Then he spent the next hour answering questions from the audience. He basically provided one-on-one coaching for people in the audience. I was fortunate enough to be one of those people.
James Arthur Ray: How to Set a Financial Goal
My question was around money. You see, although I’ve been successful making a good income as an engineer offline, I haven’t had the same success online. When I told James my goal was to earn $20,000 per month online, he said, “Is that it?” And then I said, “That’s my goal for this year.”
He asked me to observe the law of gender. The Law of Gender basically says that everything in the Universe has a gestation period. All creation works in cycles. A babe will sit in the womb for nine months. It’s all part of the Universal process. There is an incubation or gestation period regardless if the goal is for more money, a relationship or a healthy body.
He also said that most people overestimate what they can do in a year and underestimate what they can do in 10 years.
James then asked me, “Do you know you can do it? Do you know you can reach your goal of $20,000 per month?” And I didn’t answer – there was silence. He then went on to say that if I was doubtful (and based on my answer he knew that I was) that it wouldn’t happen. Doubt was actually pushing my goal away.
He then told me to set a new goal for this year. A goal that would excite me. Something that was both scary and exciting at the same time. A goal that would keep me teetering on the border of chaos and order. I’ve explained James theory of chaos and order in James Arthur Ray – Parallel Universes DVD Review.
I’ve got to admit, James provided me with some great insight.
Last Piece of Advice from James Arthur Ray
James also pointed out that all three areas: thoughts, feelings and actions have to be firing in the same direction to produce accelerated results. He said that some people will get their thoughts and feelings aligned, but then they sit on the couch watching TV. There is a big missing – it’s ACTION.
Sometimes your feeling can be out of alignment with what you are wanting. He even gave an example of a women who was 135lb overweight. She was thinking thin and acting thin – but felt like a blimp. Thoughts, feelings and actions were not firing in alignment and because of that she wasn’t able to loose the weight.
Once she started feeling thin, she lost 70 lb in a matter of months.
It makes so much sense but a great majority of us just miss it – I was missing it too.
If all areas of your life are firing in alignment, then you’re thinking, feeling and acting in the direction of that goal. Once you set a goal and you’re in complete alignment, nothing can stop you.
