Sometimes it doesn’t seem like it’s worth it to stand for something, to really commit to something. You have to put your word on the line. It’s not easy to commit to something and keep your word. It’s not easy to keep working at your goal until you get the result you want. Some days you may get that little gremlin buzzing inside of your head saying, “What’s the whole point? Maybe I should pack it in. It isn’t worth the trouble anyways.”
It’s this gremlin mindset that got me thinking, “Is it really worth it to go the extra mile so that I can achieve the results I want?” I was mulling this over in my mind when I came across this quote,
“You can take your word back, and what you get then is your old life back.” ~ Werner Erhard
The gremlin isn’t around anymore. In the spirit of commitment and achieving the results you want for your life, I’ve put together my 5 killer commitment strategies,
1) Tell Everyone. At the very least tell as many people as you can. The more people who know about your commitment the more accountable you will be. Ask them to call you when you’re commitment is completed. Most importantly don’t forget to celebrate when you’re complete!
2) Write Out Your Commitments. When you write out your commitments you are accessing the visual, auditory and kinesthetic senses in your nervous system. When writing down your commitments, you are powerfully connecting to the energy of your sub-conscious mind.
3) 100% Effort. When you commit to something, do it all the way or don’t do it at all. Put 100% of your energy into that goal. Half assed actions get you half-assed results. Commit 100% of your energy and effort into your commitment.
4) Add Emotional Juice: One way to really get charged about your commitment or goal is to add some emotional intensity. Start by asking why this commitment is important to you and it will generate the juice you need to help motivate you.
5) No Matter What It Takes: When Joe Montana played for the San Francisco 49ers he was known as “Joe The Comeback Kid.” He would consistently win games by coming from behind the opponent. Joe had a – whatever it takes – attitude to win football games. His beliefs and actions were aligned with his commitment to win games. When asked in an interview what he did to get these results, he said he would ask himself the question: “What do I need to do to get the job done?”

As far as promises go; it’s alway helpful to tell people in your life what you’re up to as I mentioned in # 1.
Especially those people who really call you on your stuff ;) If you find that’s not working for you, then you could always get a coach to create accountability.
